HOW DO I EAT AT RESTAURANTS AND ACHIEVE MY HEALTH GOALS?
I get it. It's challenging. Not going to lie.
Restaurant meals present a variety of challenges including:
hidden fats and sugar
novelty which increases over-eating
alcohol & sugary beverages
But you CAN enjoy eating out with friends and achieve your goals. You can't not socialize if you're on a healthy eating plan.
You need to learn STRATEGIES that will empower you to make choices aligned with your goals.
Here are a few of the hacks I've discovered that we teach our clients that are game changers!
1 - add extra fats to your food diary for restaurant meals - all meals cooked in a commercial kitchen are cooked on a stove with oil - account for it
2 - don't stress about logging food exactly - it's more important you find a ballpark entry that matches your meal
3 - limit foods like sauces that are full of fat and hard to estimate.
4 - ask for steamed veggies - even if they aren't on the menu a lot of restaurants serve them!
5 - split portions - you'll save money and eat an appropriate amount for your body
6 - skip alcohol and sodas, opt for iced tea or water or Perrier
7 - enjoy the ambience, company, music and scene - food is just one element in eating out that brings pleasure
8 - bump up your steps - this helps negate the likelihood of over-eating a bit and keeps you in line with your goals!
