THE KAUA'I JOURNALS: Week 3
Okurrrr Kaua’i, I GOT IT.
When you move to the island, you might encounter people telling you “be prepared for the island to test you.”
Well she’s been testing me. My third week on island has been the hardest so far - a visit to urgent care, some deep clarity about who I am, and roaches and ants in the kitchen at my sublet not to mention missing friends.
I keep thinking of this phrase from yoga:
WHATEVER YOU PICK, COMMIT FULLY
I picked Kaua’i and she has picked me (so far), so I’m here for it.
When people ask me, “Are you staying there forever?” Um I have no idea. I can plan my life about one month advance thank you very much.
But I do know I’m here for at least the next year because when I commit, I’m in.
Highlights from my week:
Checking out Larsen’s Beach & saw more than one nude man (unfortunately none looked like Ryan Reynolds)
Making some new acquaintances at co-working
Two ladies at yoga remembered my name! PRACTICALLY LOCAL!
A weekend long digital detox (spent my time reading under this palm tree)
Hiking my first trail in Waimea Canyon
Working in Hanalei overlooking my favorite view & seeing a rainbow while walking the beach
If you’re going through a tough time, just know that the only constant in life is things never stay the same and eventually things will most likely get better or least they’ll change. Just because something is hard doesn’t mean you stop. Just like with our fitness journeys. Or a college degree. Or a relationship.
So here’s to a new week living in paradise on “the rock” as the locals call it.
